About

How it felt to be standing there

I am from Indonesia and I live in Gießen.

I photograph because a picture can carry an emotion — the way a scene made me feel, kept. That is the whole of why I do it.

I work in two ways, and they pull in opposite directions. Most of the time I use a slow shutter and let movement smear across the frame, because blur holds what a street was doing in a way a frozen picture never does. The rest of the time I do the reverse — a fast shutter, the aperture closed down — because sometimes what is actually happening is the thing worth keeping.
